  3. How do I go about ordering a stone fireplace/kitchen worktop?

The first step is to decide upon a colour for your fireplace/kitchen worktop that will harmonise or contrast with the colour scheme of the surrounding décor/kitchen units.
If you are unsure, go to our menu bar and select Kitchens, Bathrooms or Fireplace/Living Rooms where you can choose a colour of stone and see how it looks in any of the particular settings.

Step two is to take some approximate dimensions of the fireplace or worktop and call or email us for a quotation. Better still, call in and see us for one to one personal service.

If you wish to proceed with ordering once you have received your quotation, we will require templates to be provided for us. If you are unable to prepare templates, we can arrange to have them made for a small nominal charge. Please note that if the dimensions on the templates differ from those measurements provided by you at estimate stage, the difference will be repriced and invoiced accordingly. A 50% deposit of the total cost of your order will be required prior to manufacture with the balance payable on collection or completion of installation (if by SCI).

  4. What is the recommended thickness for stone?
Generally, we like to recommend 30mm thickness for kitchen worktops, fireplaces and vanity units. However, you can opt for 40mm thickness worktops if you wish, providing always that your units and the floor construction underneath can adequately bear the weight. 20mm thick material can be used for fireplaces and for small vanity tops.

  5. How long do I have to wait for my fireplace/kitchen worktop to be manufactured?
Our manufacture periods depend upon the availability of the type of marble or granite you choose and the size and complexity of that which you require. However, for a material that we hold instock, we generally quote 10 to 15 working days from receipt of templates.

  6. Do you have an installation service?
We are able to provide an installation service for any fire surround, kitchen worktop or vanity unit top. However, we do not provide and/or install gas or electric fires and their accessories, kitchen or vanity unit bases. You will also need to arrange the supply and connection of any plumbing, gas or electrical accessories.

  7. What do I need to prepare before my kitchen is ready for the installation of granite worktops?

You must ensure that your kitchen units are correctly and firmly fixed in place inaccordance with the manufacturers instructions, with all sink units, taps, hob units etc. on site. Any temporary or existing work surfaces must be removed and the units checked for level. Any existing tile splashbacks may need to be removed prior to installation of the new worktop.

  8. Does granite and marble stain?

Most marbles, slates and limestones, whilst generally strong, are easily scratched and are not resistant to staining (orange juice will leave a ring if a wetglass is left on the stones surface). Granite however, is a very resilient and hardwearing material and is not generally susceptible to staining. Albeit, some of the lighter coloured granites could be stained by prolonged contact with substances such as cooking oil.

Therefore, for marble, slate, limestone and some light coloured granites, we advocate that the stone is treated with Lithofin MN Stainstop or equal and approved sealer before use and re-treated at regular intervals, in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

  9. Do you provide sealers and/or cleaning and maintenance products?
We are able to provide a range of sealers and cleaning products from the Lithofin range to special order.

  10. Do you provide samples?

We are able to provide up to three samples of marble or granite from you on verbal and/or email request. Please click here to view samples of all materials we hold in stock.

  11. What if the marble or granite I require is not in your sample range?
The materials we currently hold in stock represent the more popular materials utilised in the domestic market out of the many hundreds of different materials that are available from around the world. However, we can attempt to trace any marble or granite that is not in our rangeupon receipt of a name or brief description of the material.

    •  Pencil Round
    •  Bevel
